However, Federer hasn’t played since Wimbledon last year, when he had knee surgery that he acknowledged could end his professional tennis career, but he’s certainly considering a comeback. Recently, fans were treated to a rare video of the 20-time Grand Slam champion hitting the practice courts indoors. He was seen repeatedly smashing forehands in the footage. While it may appear trivial, the video went viral, garnering over one million views and 200,000 likes in less than an hour and attracting praise from admirers all around the world.

However, amidst all the appreciation, there was one person who seemed to criticise Federer whilst retweeting the message. He is none other than former tennis pro Mardy fish. Fish, who is a former top-10 player, chastised the Swiss’ footwork, saying, “Terrible technique here,” and telling him to “bend your knees.”

“Terrible technique here. Bend your knees, Roger. Also, those shadows. Where are you? Your basement?” he wrote.

Despite the footage showing him practising to prepare for the court, recent reports have stated that the 40-year-old ‘Swiss maestro’ will not be able to compete at Wimbledon this year. In a recent interview with SRF TV, Federer indicated on staging a comeback at the end of the summer or early autumn. “It will certainly be a while. The end of the summer, early autumn, where I’m aiming for a comeback”

“It’s only now where I’m at the phase where I can start thinking about my comeback. I had a very good MRI a few weeks ago, which makes me feel very positive,” the 20-time Grand Slam champion went on to add.

Moreover, by dint of his comments, it is safe to assume that he will most likely make a comeback in this year’s US Open, which begins from August 29th.
