Emma Raducanu was knocked out in the second round of Australian Open 2022 by Danka Kovinic in three sets. The reigning US Open champion could not quite live up to her expectations, as the Briton did not have a pleasant summer down under.

Her season kickstarted with a drubbing received at the hands of Elena Rybakina in the first round of Sydney International. Raducanu was still upbeat about her chances at the first major of the year, as she was still undefeated in a Grandslam match.

Emma Raducanu was handed a tough draw in Melbourne, as she squared off against Sloane Stephens in round one. Raducanu won the battle of US Open champions in three sets, however, she was then defeated by Danka Kovinic in round two. The Briton has now bid adieu to Australia, and stated that she loved her time in the country.

Emma Raducanu ‘loved’ her time in Australia despite disappointing performaces

Emma Raducanu revealed after her second round loss that she was suffering from painful blisters since the start of the year. The Briton said that her team wanted her to withdraw from the tournament, considering that it was just the start of the season.

An American swing in March-April followed by the clay court season would be on the US Open 2021 champipn’s agenda.
