The wait will finally be ending for tennis fans across the globe as Novak Djokovic is set to return to tennis action this week. The Serbian who is yet to play a single match this season will be playing as the top seed at the 2022 Dubai Tennis Championships. Djokovic will return to action for the first time since he represented Serbia in the 2021 Davis Cup Finals in December.

After the entire episode in Australia where his visit to play at the 2022 Australian Open saw him being deported on the eve of his first-round match and being banned from entering the country for the next 3 years, Djokovic had refused to address the media for a long time. He has however finally decided to present his own version of the story.

During the turbulent times in Australia when the Serbian was first put in a federal quarantine facility and then allowed to stay freely after winning the first court case on 10th January 2022, Djokovic was accused of having lied on his immigration form and had presented false Covid reports that showed him being infected with the virus in December, which would then help him eventually enter Australia as the country then considered the case of people recently recovered from the virus.

The tests were however later backed by the Serbian Health Ministry who issued a statement that the reports were not fake and the player was indeed infected with the virus and there has been no wrongdoings about it. Djokovic addressed this issue during his press conference in Dubai ahead of his match.

“The media has been speculating about it. What I can tell you is what I told everybody. I am not an IT expert. In the last two years, I’ve done so many PCR and rapid tests, like most of the Tour I guess. I’m not in a position to understand how these tests have been processed and registered. I am glad that Institute for Public Health in Serbia has come out publicly and validated those tests. I am not an expert, I can’t go more into detail,” said Djokovic as reported by journalist Sasa Ozmo.
