US Open champion Emma Raducanu is one of the biggest names in women’s tennis currently after her historic title triumph at Flushing Meadows. She became the first qualifier in tennis history to win a grand slam and hence became a household name. Given her multi-cultured background and British nationality, she is one of the most marketable athletes.

Despite not living up to the hype so far, Raducanu is taking a step in the right direction with each tournament she plays. In an exclusive interview with Vogue magazine, the Brit talked about a variety of subjects. She talked about her grooming and skincare routine, and also spoke about the players who inspired her.

She revealed that growing up, she looked up to Li Na because of her mental strength and incredible movement. Adding to that, she also admires Simona Halep because of her ability to fight.

“Growing up, the two players that I looked up to were Li Na because of her mental strength and incredible movement, and Simona Halep, because I love the way she played and was able to fight, without being the biggest player out there,” Raducanu said.

The Brit also revealed her pre-match routine. She said that she has a good meal before the match and then gets her kit ready. “I practice and have a good meal before the game to make sure I have enough fuel in the tank – this changes from tournament to tournament, but it’s usually pasta or rice and fish,” she said.

“I will get in my match kit after practice, make sure my hair is tied (and add some hairspray to keep it in place and out of my eyes), and then I’ll usually relax until it’s time to play. I’ll do another physical warm-up before going on court.”

In the same interview, Raducanu also spoke about the sports she loves besides tennis. She said that she loves a lot of sports but due to tennis commitments, can’t play them anymore. Her love for motorsports is well known but to stay injury-free, she can’t go fast and push herself out of her comfort zone in karting.

“There are a lot that I love and used to do, but can’t really anymore, such as motocross and go-karting. I don’t have as much time and need to be more careful to stay injury-free, but I love to go fast and push myself out of my comfort zone. I am a big fan of running, particularly during the last couple of years. I find it’s a great time to switch off and think about things on my own,” she said.
