Dominic Thiem vs Adrian Mannarino : Preview
Dominic Thiem will be back on Grass as he makes his season debut on the surface having last played on it at the 2019 Wimbledon where he was defeated in the first round to American Sam Querrey. The Austrian has not achieved much success on Grass and will be looking to make good start this time around after having received a bye in the first round.
He comes from a shocking first round defeat at the French Open 2021 losing to Pablo Andujar in 5-sets having won the first two sets. The defeat ended his rather poor Clay season with a record of 4-4, a surface where is considered one of the best to play against.
Adrian Mannarino comes into the second round after defeating German player Jan-Lennard Struff 7-6(3), 6-3 with odds against him as he has not had much success this season seeing some early exits in his previous tournaments as well on Grass. He enters the 2nd round for a 2nd time on Grass after reaching the stage at the 2021 Queen’s Club as well.
Mannarino had a disappointing season on Clay failing to win a single match this season as well as he extends his poor run on the surface to 11 winless matches starting from the 2019 clay season. He is looking to rejuvenate his season on Grass as he looks forward for the 2nd half of the season.

This will be their 9th meeting on the tour and 1st on Grass. The duo last met at the 2020 Australian Open in the 1st round and like their previous 7 meetings, Dominic Thiem emerged successful in their clash and leads the head-to-head tie 8-0.

Mannarino will enter the match with a season record of 7-16 and career Grass record of 75-48. He will however find it difficult against Thiem as the Austrian will come charging in for wins and the psychological advantage of not having lost a set against Adrian since their 2nd ever meeting that took place in 2015.
Thiem will come with a career Grass record of 14-15 and a season record of 9-8. In a season with multiple injuries, the Austrian has not been at his best but with an early exit in Paris and coming well rested and ready, Thiem will be the favourite for this clash.
Prediction: Dominic Thiem to win in 3-sets.
