‘This one means so much to me,’ Emma Raducanu elated after a clutch performance on Clay debut at the Billie Jean King Cup

Things haven’t been ideal for Emma Raducanu on the court since her historic triumph at Flushing Meadows last year. The Brit stunned the world by winning the US Open and became the first qualifier ever in tennis history to win a grand slam. Ever since then, she is projected as the next big thing in women’s tennis but she is yet to deliver as promised.
She was very inconsistent after the US Open and bowed out of the early rounds at the tournaments she played in. This season too, the start hasn’t been ideal for her courtesy a string of poor outings at the Australian Open and then at the Golden swing. But finally, the Brit has something positive to flaunt.
On her clay-court debut at the Billie Jean King Cup, she defeated Czech Tereza Martincova in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5 to keep Great Britain alive in the tie. Britain would’ve been trailed by 0-2 if Raduacnu would’ve lost her match but she managed to draw things level for her team.
Naturally, Raducanu was extremely happy after her clutch win and revealed what the win meant for her.
“This one means so much to me because it is my first match in the Billie Jean King Cup and representing the team in my first match on clay,” said Raducanu. “We’re still in this battle and it’s all to play for tomorrow.”

She then revealed how the team had her back and then went on to analyze the match. “The team had my back 100% as we had Harriet’s back this morning,” she said.
“It is amazing to be in a team event in an individual sport and I’m cherishing the matches this week. In the beginning of the second set, I went a bit flat and everyone on the team said the intensity had dropped. It is difficult to regain that but glad I did in the end.”
