Over the last couple of years, Stefanos Tsitsipas has one of the top players in the world. He has time and again proved his champion mentality and did the same this year too. He had an amazing first half of the season. He made it to the semifinal of the Australian Open and was the best clay court player of the season where he won the Monte Carlo Masters and Lyon Open before reaching the final of the French Open. He was two sets up against Novak Djokovic in the final before losing the next three.

In the North American swing, he made back-to-back semifinals at Toronto and Cincinnati and also reached the quarterfinals at Indian Wells. As a precautionary measure, he withdrew from his first match at Bercy.

Like Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev too had a very good first half of the season. He won the ATP Cup representing Russia and made it to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. He then won the title on fast courts of Rotterdam before making it to the semifinals at Qatar, Dubai and Miami. He followed it up with a runner-up finish at Monte Carlo and had quarterfinal outings at Barcelona and Rome.

In the North American swing, he then reached the final of the Cincinnati Masters before bowing out in the third round at New York. The Russian then had couple of poor outings on home soil at Moscow and St. Petersburg and lost his opening match at Bercy to Taylor Fritz.

This will be the eighth meeting between the duo. Tsitsipas leads the H2H 4-3. They last met at Monte Carlo earlier this year where Tsitsipas won in straight sets.

Both the players are amongst the best in the world but aren’t in good touch off late. Both are coming into Turin after early round exits and would want to kick their campaign off to a good start. The fast courts will suite Rublev but Tsitsipas has shown that he could play well indoors too. Expect a thrilling match with Tsitsipas edging past Rublev.
