World No.2 Daniil Medvedev denied Novak Djokovic of his 21st major at the 2021 US Open and won his maiden slam at Flushing Meadows. He beat Djokovic convincingly in straight sets 6-4,6-4,6-4 to become only the second player born in 90s after Dominic Thiem to win a major.

He also became the third Russian male to win a major- the first in more than two decades. He also ended Djokovic’s unbeaten streak of 27 wins at majors this season. Medvedev is also the only player to have a winning record against Djokovic since he turned No.1 in the world.

The match was always going to go down in history books- either with Djokovic’s calendar slam or the passing of baton- Medvedev’s maiden slam. Quite naturally, Twitterati went crazy after the second seed’s triumph.
