The American won in straight sets with the score line of 7-5, 7-6.

The world number 50 last played at the Winston-Salem Open where he was the 13th seed. The American reached the quarter finals and ultimately lost to eventual finalist, Mikael Ymer in 3 sets. The score line of the match was 6-7, 6-2, 6-3. It will be interesting to see how the American will fare against Andrey Rublev on Friday.
