US Open 2021: Women’s Singles Draw Preview and Prediction

The last grandslam of the year, the US Open will commence from August 30 and the draw for the same is out. Wimbledon champion Ash Barty will be the top seed of the tournament, Aryna Sabalenka is seeded second while Defending champion Naomi Osaka is seeded third.

Ash Barty will headline the top quarter of the draw and will face Vera Zvonareva in the first round. She will then face either of Clara Burel or Clara Tauson in the second round. She is drawn alongside Veronika Kudermetova who opens against Sorana Cirstea. Americans Shelby Rogers and Madison Brengle are also in the topmost bracket.
Australian Open runner-up Jennifer Brady will open her campaign against a qualifier and could face Shuai Zhang in the second round. Czech Karolina Muchova will face Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo in the second round. Muchova and Brady could face each other in the third round with the winner facing Barty in the Round of 16.
11th seed and Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic faces Arantxa Rus in the first round and could later face Jessica Pegula in the third round who opens against Anastasia Potapova. Former French Open champion Iga Swiatek will face a qualifier in the opening round and could face Fiona Ferro in the next round. 28th seed Anett Kontaveit faces Samantha Stosur in the opener and could go on to face Cincinnati finalist Jil Teichmann in the second round.
1st Quarterfinal Prediction: Ash Barty vs Belinda Bencic
Second Quarter
Wimbledon runner-up Karolina Pliskova will headline the second quarter of the draw and will face Catherine McNally in the first round and could face another American Amanda Anisimova in the second round. Petra Martic and Ajla Tomljanovic could also faceoff in the second round. 24th seed Paula Badosa faces a tough task in the first round as she faces Alison van Uytvanck. French Open runner-up Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will take on Alison Riske is the opening round and could go on to face Badosa in the third round.
Former US Open champion and sixth seed, Bianca Andreescu faces a tricky first round match against Viktorija Golubic with the winner taking on Lauren Davis in the second round. Jelena Ostapenko and Nadia Podoroska will clash in the opening round. The winner will most probably lock horns with Andreescu in the third round. Third Quarter
Defending champion Naomi Osaka headlines the third quarter of the draw and will face Marie Bouzkova. She is expected to face either of Kaia Kanepi or Yulia Putintseva in the third round. Other big names in the bracket include American teen sensation Coco Gauff and Angelique Kerber, the two expecting to meet each other in the third round. The winner will face Osaka in a mouth watering Round of 16 clash.
5th seed Elina Svitolina will open against a qualifier and will most probably face Ana Bogdan in the second round. Daria Kasatkina, who faces Tsvetana Pironkova in the first round, could lock horns against Svitolina in the third round. Former world no.1 Simona Halep will open her US Open campaign against in form Camila Giorgi with the winner projected to play Elena Rybakina in the third round.
3rd Quarterfinal Prediction: Simona Halep vs Naomi Osaka
Fourth Quarter
Second seed Aryna Sabalenka will headline the bottom quarter of the draw and will play Nina Stojanovic in the first round. She will face either Tamara Zidansek or Bernarda Pera in the second round. She is drawn alongside Danielle Collins who opens against Carla Suarez Navarro. Elise Mertens and Ons Jabeur could also meet in the third round.
9th seed Garbine Muguruza faces Donna Vekic in the first round and is drawn alonwith Victoria Azarenka who opens her campaign against Tereza Martincova. The two grand slam winners are expected to meet in the Round of 32. French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova will begin her US Open journey against a qualifier and is expected to face American Christina McHale in the next round.
4th Quarterfinal Prediction: Barbora Krejcikova vs Aryna Sabalenka
Semifinals
Top seed Ash Barty will be up against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the first semifinal. Both players are in the form of their lives this season. Barty is coming off two titles at Wimbledon and Cincinnati while Pavlyuchenkova reached the final of the French Open. Barty will have an edge in the encounter and should cruise into the final.
The second semifinal will be played between Naomi Osaka and Aryna Sabalenka. Both the players are amongst the very best on the WTA tour and will push each other to the limit. Expect a thrilling match with Osaka reaching yet another grand slam final.
