Her first career tennis victory, though, was incredible for a variety of reasons. Emma Raducanu, the tournament’s No. 11 seed, beat Caroline Garcia in three sets in the first round at Indian Wells 2022 but lost 6-7, 6-4, 7-5 in the third round against Petra Martic. Raducanu had missed her previous tournament in Mexico due to a hip injury, and her participation in the early US hardcourt portion of the season had been questioned. She also revealed that she had struggled with a back ailment while training to regain her form and fitness after losing to Martic. However, despite all of this, she is optimistic and ready to heal from a stiff back in time for the Miami Open, where she has been given a tough draw.
