The Czech tennis sensation sustained a hand injury in December during a practice session. “Unfortunately, I hurt my right hand in practice yesterday and I won’t be able to play in Adelaide, Sydney, and (the) Australian Open this year,” Pliskova said. The two-time grand slam runner-up was one of the few high-profile players to pull out of the Australian Open, the first major of the season.

Karolina Pliskova stunned tennis fans today with a tweet in which she can be seen practicing on the court. The 29-year-old captioned the video, “Feels so good to be back on court.” We can see her hitting forehand strokes tastefully in the video. Tennis lovers all across the world breathed a sigh of relief as a result of this.

Pliskova has been a steady presence in the top 10 since the summer of her dreams in 2016 when she cruised to the US Open finals after winning in Cincinnati. However, watching her in 2021 was a difficult spectacle to behold, as she started the season on a terrible note. Pliskova fell out of the top 10 for the first time in over five years after a string of sluggish performances, early losses, four straight losses to the same lower-ranked opponent, Jessica Pegula, as well as a twin bagel from Iga Swiatek in the Rome final. Wimbledon, though, prevented what could have been the start of a deeper spiral, as she played the finals against Ashleigh Barty. She last played at the WTA Finals where she bowed out of the group stage.
