LaWanda

Fans who have become famous have a long history. Some of the most amazing people on the planet are the fans who pitch a tent for days in order to secure a front-row ticket to an event where their celebrity crush is appearing, or who stand in line in the blazing sun or pouring rain just to get a glimpse of them. It’s a custom for dedicated tennis fans to stand in the blistering sun in the hopes of seeing their favourite player sign autographs or snap photos. LaWanda Watts, a Los Angeles native and a devoted fan, is a regular in the BNP Paribas Open selfie lineup.

Players have now turned the tide on the tennis Twitter-famous superfan, with a selfie with the superfan swiftly becoming the most essential priority on their Indian Wells to-do lists. That’s how she went from being a fan to becoming a celebrity, living every tennis fan’s dream life. There have been running jokes and posts on Twitter about it.

As the ATP and WTA’s best stars get ready for the 1000-level event, players like Marin Cilic, Petra Kvitova, Sebastian Korda, and others have all stopped in front of LaWanda’s pop – up selfie camera in past days. Rather than letting the moment get lost amid the myriad selfies and signatures they’ve given out throughout their careers, players are now using social media to thank her and show off their “coveted photo” with the fan, posting it on their social media accounts.

LaWanda is “having the best time” at Indian Wells
