Carlos Alcaraz continued his dominant run at the 2022 Miami Open with a win over Miomir Kecmanovic in the quarter-finals. It was end-to-end stuff from both the players as they were on top gear throughout the match, but it was the Spaniard who held his calm to prevail in a three-set thriller with the scoreline of 6-7, 6-3, 7-6.

With neither of the players holding back on their game, the match had it all from blistering baseline hits to stunning drop shots. During the third set, the pressure was on Alcaraz as he was serving for the match at 6-5. Kecmanovic managed to return the serve and both the players were well in control of the rally until Kecmanovic hit a shot close to the baseline which offset Alcaraz’s rhythm. But the Spaniard managed to hit it back and found his footing just in time to return a fizzing cross-court forehand to win the point. The crowd erupted in thunderous applause following the point, clearly in awe of the Spaniard’s stupendous forehand winner.

Alcaraz will now take on defending champion Hubert Hurkacz for a spot in his maiden Masters 1000 finals. The 18-year-old is already set to make his debut in the top-15 and can reach as high as 11th with a title triumph. But faces a stern test against Hurkacz, who stunned World No.2 Daniil Medvedev in straight sets to reach his second-consecutive semi-final in Miami.

Needless to say, Alacarz’s gritty all-court display left fans stunned. Some said the intensity of the match was off the charts and hailed the match as one of the best ones of the year, only next to Rafael Nadal’s historic 2022 Australian Open final. Even the commentators were stunned by the near-impossible shot saying “Stop it, he can’t miss. Unbelievable movement and anticipation.
