Last year, Roger Federer was named the brand ambassador for Switzerland Tourism, a country he has proudly represented for more than two decades as a tennis champion. The Swiss had previously acted in a commercial for the tourism board alongside famed actor Robert De Niro, and his most recent ad follows in the same vein.

This time, the 20-time Grand Slam champion appeared alongside famed actress Anne Hathaway in a comedy regarding the commercial’s final cut. The two were clearly upset with the film they viewed on screen, claiming that Switzerland’s gorgeous countryside had overshadowed them. A image of the two travelling up the scenic Furka Pass, for example, shows a relatively little car against the gorgeous Swiss mountain scenery, prompting Federer and Hatheway to question why no one can see their faces. The filmmaker, on the other hand, is confident that they are working on a “masterpiece.”

When questioned, the director stated that he had no choice but to make the artistic decision because the on-screen connection between the two was “electric.” “Your chemistry together was so electric that it had to be framed delicately against the majestic Swiss landscape. Like a postcard, you know?” the director said.

The former World No. 1 then questioned the director about why he and Hathaway were forced to parkour “22 times” over glaciers if the video was simply going to use wide shots. Everyone else in the room, on the other hand, agreed with the director, remarking that the beauty of the glaciers gave them “goosebumps.”

The duo’s synchronised swimming performance was seemingly omitted from the final cut of the advertisement, but technicians conceded that Federer’s abs in the deleted segment were “amazing.” One writer in the room came up with a great concept for a tagline promoting Swiss tourism after an angry Federer pointed out that his abs couldn’t even be seen. “Maybe we should write something like, “The Grand Tour [of Switzerland, even more majestic than Roger Federer’s abs,”” he says.

Anne Hathaway hurried the 40-year-old out of the room before he lost his cool, telling him they needed to “take a break.” The American then proceeded to inform the 20-time Grand Slam winner that she would not be appearing in his next advertisement and that he should instead approach Meryl Streep.

The genuine tagline of the commercial is revealed by a voiceover as they walk away off-screen: “Anne and Roger learned the hard way that no one upstages the Grand Tour of Switzerland.”
