Novak Djokovic returns to the World No. 1 spot once again as Daniil Medvedev‘s poor run in the 2022 Indian Wells Masters is not enough to keep him at the top. Medvedev officially became the top-ranked player on 28th February but will have to bid adieu to the top spot only after 3 weeks.
While Novak remained absent during the Masters event, his humongous ranking points earned in the 2021 season are coming to his rescue as he returns to the top spot without playing any tournament. The joy might however be short-lived as a semi-final run at the 2022 Miami Masters for Medvedev will see the player replace Novak once again at the top as the two Grand Slam champions are separated only by 55 points.
Rafael Nadal who replaces Alexander Zverev at the 3rd spot will also be absent from the tournament in Miami and will return directly for the Clay season where a successful haul could in fact see him replace both Novak and Daniil but it would require a lot of combinations to go his way with respect to the performance of the top two ranked players.
With Novak set to return at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters, the Serbian will nevertheless be one of the top two seeds at the tournament where he will play just his second tournament of the season after being not allowed to play in Australia and the USA.

While the stay might be only for a couple of weeks that will see Novak clinch his 363 and 364th week at the top, it was nothing less than a celebration for the Djokovic fans on Twitter who took the opportunity to show their happiness for the return of Serbian to the top spot that has been his for more than any player on the Tour.
