The past year has been exceptionally dramatic for Emma Raducanu as she morphed into a star overnight. With her victory at the US Open, she became the first qualifier youngest British player to ever to bag a grand slam victory. Not only that, but she also aced her A levels and graduated from high school. This was a radical shift in the youngster’s life. Following her historic victory, she was inundated with invitations and endorsement opportunities, including a partnership with Tiffany & Co., a campaign for Dior, and an ambassadorship with Evian.

“When I’m choosing who I work with I really like to have authentic partnerships with brands that I have an interest in or I think can really influence my performance,” she remarked, highlighting Wimbledon sponsor Evian as an example of a brand that seems like a good fit for her. “Being an athlete, healthy hydration is so important so I need to make sure I’m staying fit on the court and ready to keep going and pushing through my hours of training and work,” she added.

Raducanu has been savoring a different aspect of her career in recent days, as well as the new business opportunities that have presented themselves while sticking to her intensive training regimen. “I’ve had a lot of new things that have been exciting,” she said. “It’s great to learn from different industries and see new things, and I can apply it into every aspect [of my life] really, even my tennis. So I think that’s been really eye-opening.”

Raducanu, besides exploring herself in the glam industry, also likes exploring elsewhere and expanding her boundaries. She’s a keen learner and she obtained an A* in maths at A-Level and says that if she weren’t a tennis player, her chosen career would be in finance. She also talked about her guilty pleasure which is watching Taiwanese movies on Netflix. She also uses it as a medium to improve her hold in Mandarin. “I think listening passively is one of the best ways to improve,” she said.

Given what she’s achieved in such a short span of time, she was asked what advice she would give to her younger self, to which she replied, “To enjoy the moment more. A lot of the time I was always thinking ahead, of what I could be doing or [wondering] if I was missing out on things. I wasn’t so present. But some of those times where I was looking ahead are actually some of the best memories.”

2022 is off to a shaky start. Emma Raducanu returned to the court in Mexico last month after an injury forced her to withdraw from the Australian Open. She fell in the round of 32 against Daria Saville
