Novak Djokovic faced a lot of humiliation at the beginning of the year. After being handed a medical exemption by the Australian Government, the world No.1 was denied entry into Australia and was deported due to his vaccination status.
Djokovic wasn’t able to contest in the Australian Open, a title that he had won 9-times in his career, and was the defending champion. He has declared that he will be coming out with his side of the story very shorty and the tennis community will be eager to hear what the world No.1 has to say about the happenings down under.
Recently, former Wimbledon doubles champion Nikola Mektic showed his support to Djokovic. He said that he stands behind Djokovic in the tough times he is going through. He also criticized the ATP for being a ‘puppet of large corporations’.
Novak Djokovic receives support from Nikola Mektic
Novak Djokovic has been going through one of the worst phases of his career. On the court, he still remains the best player in the world but he has been having a really bad time outside the tennis court. He has been badgered with criticism due to his stand on the vaccine and has been humiliated in front of the public time and time again.
A player of Djokovic’s stature doesn’t deserve to be disrespectful in this manner. He is a great ambassador for the game and the one criticizing him should realize his importance to the game.
Croatian doubles player and former Wimbledon champion Nikola Mektic came out to support Djokovic in a recent interview. He said, “We are absolutely with Novak. ATP is simply an organization that is a puppet of large corporations.”
We have been grateful to witness three geniuses displaying their art on the biggest stage. Instead of trying to push one of the greats of tennis down at such a difficult time. We need to show support to a champion of the game and expect him to return to the biggest stage as soon as possible.
