Carlos Alcaraz Garfia was born on the 5th of May 2003 in El Palmar, Murcia, Spain. He is the second of four siblings, born to Carlos Alcaraz González and Virginia Garfia Escandón, and grew up in a close-knit family that has played an important role in defining his career.
Alcaraz displayed a natural interest in tennis at a young age, which was not surprising given his father’s involvement in the sport. Carlos Alcaraz González, his father, was the director of the tennis academy at the Real Sociedad Club de Campo de Murcia, popularly known as the Royal Society Murciashire Club. Young Alcaraz took his first steps at this very club.
Alcaraz’s passion for tennis grew as his talent grew, culminating in his enrolment in the famed Juan Carlos Ferrero’s Equelite JC Ferrero Sport Academy in 2018. His skills improved dramatically under the guidance of former world No. 1 and Grand Slam champion Juan Carlos Ferrero. He discovered the ideal place to develop his talent at this place, which was surrounded by world-class training facilities and trainers. Ferrero, who saw Alcaraz’s enormous potential, was instrumental in developing his game and instilling in him the discipline and commitment required to excel in the sport. Carlos Alcaraz’s parents are Carlos Alcaraz Gonzalez and Virginia Garfia.
Alcaraz made his junior circuit debut in 2019, attracting the eye of tennis fans worldwide with his outstanding exploits. His progress continued, as he became the youngest player in 15 years to reach the semi-finals of an ATP Challenger Tour event in Alicante, Spain, in September 2020.
