“When Rafael Nadal broke the record for most Opens, he wasn’t thinking about breaking the record,” Lin-Manuel Miranda unveils that he is inspired by the tennis ace

Rafael Nadal and Lin-Manuel Miranda
Lin-Manuel Miranda has been accumulating prizes at an alarming rate. With his recent Academy Award nomination for the latest Disney film, Encanto, the American singer-songwriter is on the approach of obtaining the EGOT designation, in addition to two Emmys, three Grammys, three Tonys, and a Pulitzer Prize. In addition, if the American is successful in winning the honour, he will become the 17th person in history to complete the EGOT. The EGOT is a term to describe a person who has won Tony, Emmy, Grammy, and Oscar awards.
However, ahead of making the record, Miranda took some time to have a chit chat with celebrity Jimmy Kimmel where he was asked about his desire of getting the EGOT honour. In response, he cited Rafael Nadal, the tennis superstar, as an example of how he was motivated whilst writing his musical compositions.
In his words, “It’s like stats. When Rafa Nadal broke the record for most Opens, he wasn’t thinking about breaking the record. He was just thinking about, ‘there’s a ball coming at me very fast. And I have to hit the ball back.’ And that’s how I feel when I’m writing the tune. It’s like somebody throwing a ball at me,” Miranda went further to express and admire the 21-Grand Slam Champion.
Rafael Nadal became the first man in history to win 21-Grand Slam titles

In the Australian Open 2022, Rafael Nadal smashed through all boundaries to become the first man to win 21 grand slam titles, bringing the joy of tennis fans to new heights. After a thrilling contest, which lasted for more than 5 hours, the Spaniard defeated Russia’s Daniil Medvedev by 2-6 6-7 6-4 6-4 7-5, after trailing by two sets. This was the second-longest final in major history after the 2012 Australian Open final, in which Nadal also participated finishing runner-up to Novak Djokovic.
It was just Nadal’s second triumph at Melbourne Park, having won the tournament in 2009. With this spectacular victory, Nadal surpassed Roger Federer and Djokovic, who each have 20 Grand Slam wins. Thus, he took exclusive possession of the record for most men’s singles Grand Slam championships.
