Ashleigh Barty and Garry Kissick
Ashleigh Barty is an Australian tennis player and has won two Grand Slam titles in singles and one in doubles. She also finished as the year-end world No. 1 in singles in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Barty started to play tennis at the tender age of four. She won multiple titles in her junior career, both in singles and doubles. At the age of 15, Barty won her first junior Grand Slam title at Wimbledon and ranked as high as World No.2. The Aussie made her professional debut aged just 14 and had an impressive start to her pro career. She won four ITF titles in singles and doubles. The Australian initially had a sub-par singles performance as opposed to stellar doubles debut.
Barty had a breakthrough year in doubles in 2013, she finished as runner-up in three out of the four Grand Slams and reached. She won one WTA title along with her partner Casey Dellacqua. Her singles form wasn’t as impressive as her doubles, her best result until 2014 was only second-round exits at the French Open and US Open.
She took a temporary hiatus from tennis to play cricket in 2015, but returned back to playing in 2017. She won her first Grand Slam title at the US Open women’s doubles along with her partner CoCo Vandeweghe. In the subsequent year, she won her first Grand Slam single’s title at the Roland Garros, thus becoming the first Australian to win the French Open since Margaret Court in 1973. After skipping majority of the 2020 season due to the pandemic, Barty made a strong comeback next year by winning another Slam at the Wimbledon.
Who is Garry Kissick?
Garry Kissick is a professional Golf player and is a trainee at Brookwater Golf Club, which is the place that Barty and Kissick met for the first time in 2016. The pair decided to make their relationship public, when they made their first appearance as a couple at the red carpet of John Newcombe Awards in 2017. Barty is quiet private about their relationship and rarely posts about them on social media.
Following her third round exit at the US Open in 2021, Barty announced that she is taking a break and will skip the rest of the season owing to travel restrictions because of the pandemic. During this break Barty announced her engagement to Kissick in November, while sharing a snap on her Instagram account.
Kissick often posts congratulating Barty on her achievements and is seen in the player’s box during the matches. Following Barty’s maiden Wimbledon title last year , the pair shared an adorable moment as Barty went to embrace Kissick in the stands after she won the title.
