Bianca Andreescu

Bianca Andreescu is the flagbearer of Canadian women’s tennis and in just 4 years since turning Pro has achieved the career-high ranking of World No. 4, the highest-ranked Canadian in the WTA history. Bianca was born on 16th June 2000 in Ontario, Canada but stayed in Romania for a few years before returning to Canada again where she turned to tennis more seriously.

As a junior, she won the 2017 Australian Open and the 2017 French Open with partner and compatriot Carson Branstine becoming the first Canadian team to win the Grand Slam girls’ doubles title. Since turning Pro in 2017, she had to wait till 2019 for her first WTA final which she was unfortunate to lose at the 2019 Auckland Open but won her first title 2 months later at the 2019 Indian Wells Open.

At the 2019 US Open Bianca created history by becoming the first Canadian tennis player to win a Grand Slam title as she defeated 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams in the finals. The win also made her the first teenager to win a Grand Slam title since Maria Sharapova won the 2004 Wimbledon title.

Bianca is quite active on her social media handles and apart from her on-court achievements, she posts regular updates about her personal life as well. But what’s missing is the absence of a special someone much to the disappointment of her fans. The Canadian is focused completely on her tennis career right now and has not made any public announcement about her relationship status making it clear that she is single.

Bianca also became the first Canadian in 50 years to win the Canadian Open when she won the prestigious title at the 2019 Rogers Cup held in Montreal and defeated Serena in the finals to register her first win over the former World No. 1. She came close to another title at the 2021 Miami Open but an unfortunate injury forced her to retire in the 2nd set.

She then returned on the tour after months of absence and made a good return to the 2021 US Open where she reached the 4th round.
