The sport of tennis has time and again proved that an underdog or a youngster could rise and shock the world, especially in women’s singles over the past decade. With the likes of Coco Gauff, Emma Raducanu, and Leylah Fernandez stunning the tennis world, we have come to a certain conclusion that age can never be a factor in tennis.

Another teenager is making a splash in the sport. The first chance for the win for gifted teen Linda Fruhvirtova, the world No 279 who is digging into her lady principle draw appearance at the Miami Open. Fruhvirtova, who is just 16 years old has become the youngest layer to reach the Round of 16 of the megaevent since Tatiana Golovin in 2004.

Currently ranked No.279 in the world, the Czech 16-year old will make her top 200 debut after the Miami Open and is projected to rise up the ranks in the following months.

“It is something that I’ve longed for, playing on these large arenas before such countless individuals,” Fruhvirtova said about playing at Miami. “It’s certainly a little glimpse of heaven and I’m getting a charge out of it.”

At the junior level, Fruhvirtová won the singles and doubles titles of the Les Petits As tournament. Her sister Brenda won the singles title the year after, making them the first members of the same family to win the title over two consecutive years.

She is currently ranked (March 2022) No.3 in the ITF junior rankings and has achieved a career high ranking of No.2 in December 2021. On the ITF tour, she has the best win % on grass despite most of her wins coming on clay- which proves that she is an all-court player
