Alexander Zverev will return to the tennis courts at the Indian Wells after not facing any major repercussions from his recent rage-filled outburst at the Mexican Open.
Zverev defeated Thiago Seyboth Wild of Brazil at the Davis Cup World Group Qualifiers yesterday. The German appeared relatively calm on his return and dispatched Seyboth Wild 6-4, 6-2 to give Germany a 1-0 lead over Brazil. This was his first match since being kicked out of the Mexican Open for violent conduct against the chair umpire.
Alexander Zverev reflects back on disastrous outburst
Alexander Zverev had a disastrous outburst at the Mexican Open recently. He was kicked out of the Mexican Open for violent conduct against the chair umpire.
At a press conference in Indian Wells, Alexander Zverev expressed his deep regrets, two weeks after his big fiasco in Acapulco. The German, who was sanctioned by the ATP with a $25,000 fine and an eight-week suspended suspension, made promises for the future and reflected back on the embarrassing incident.
The young German revealed that the outburst was an embarrassment and was the worst moment of his life. He also assured that such an incident will never happen further.
“It still is embarrassing for me now. Walking around the locker room, it’s not a nice feeling. But we all do mistakes. I’m also a human being, and I can guarantee you I will never act this way again in my life. It was definitely the worst moment of my life,” said Zverev.
When asked how he will ensure such a situation doesn’t happen again, Zverev said that he has been working on himself meditation-wise to control his temper. He also said that the incident was just a stress-induced moment, and doesn’t reflect on who he is as a person.
“I’ve been doing work, meditation-wise. I think there are stress situations in everyone’s life where stuff like this happens. I’m not the first, I won’t be the last for something bad to happen on the court. I know who I am as a person and this doesn’t reflect on me,” Said Zverev.
