17-year-old Coco Gauff gained international fame at such a young age after beating some prominent names in tennis and making her top 20 debut in 2021. She also reached the quarterfinals of the French Open 2021. Her performance is consistently getting better all throughout the 2021 season and she is also the youngest player in the WTA Top 100. The youngster would come into the match after a hard-fought victory over Marta Kostyuk in the previous round.
23-year-old Ana Konjuh has won one title on the WTA Tour which she won in 2015 and reached a career-high ranking of 20 in 2017 after Wimbledon. In San Jose, she was seeded number 4 in the qualifiers and eased through her two qualifying matches in straight sets. Her best performance of the year was at the Serbian Open, where she reached the final where she had to, unfortunately, retire through injury to hand the title to Paula Badosa. The Ukrainian is coming off a victory against Marketa Vondrousova in the previous round.
