Ons Jabeur came from a set down to end home favorite Amanda Anisimova’s spirited run in the semi-finals. The Tunisian had a shaky start but bounced back quickly in the second set to force a decider. She pulled off another comeback while trailing at 1-3 in the final set to wrap up the match and reach her second clay-court final.
Jabeur had a troubled start to the season with injuries and then was diagnosed with Covid-19, which forced her to withdraw from the Australian Open. She had sub-par results till now as she made slow progress back to her form before finding her rhythm in Charleston.
Belinda Bencic continued her breakthrough on clay courts with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Ekaterina Alexandrova in the semi-finals in Charleston. This was Bencic’s first semi-final win on red dirt, having lost her previous two semifinals.
