Coming on the back of a breakthrough season, Barbora Krejcikova made a good start this year as well. The Czech started her season with a runner-up finish at the WTA Sydney International and managed to reach the quarter-finals of the 2022 Australian Open, her best result so far at the Melbourne Major. The reigning Frech Open champion won her opening round match against Caroline Garcia 6-4, 7-6.

Dayana Yastremska won a match in the main draw for the first time since October last year, as she notched up a stunning win over Irina Begu in the opening round. After losing the first set, the Ukrainian raced to a 3-0 lead in the second set and held all her service games to force a decider. The third set was a tight encounter but Yastremska managed to get the decisive break to win the set to book her place in the second round.

This will be the second meeting of the duo. Krejcikova leads their head-to-head 1-0. Their previous and only match-up so far was at the WTA Cincinnati Open, which the Czech won 6-1, 7-6.

Yastremska has had a good tournament so far, she won all her qualifying matches in Dubai which included an upset over Clara Tauson, but a win against Krejcikova is a tough ask for the Ukrainian, who has only won two matches against players ranked in the top-10.

Yastremska is an aggressive baseline but picks up too many unforced errors, and this could prove decisive against the Czech second seed who is known for her powerful serve and brilliant netplay, owing to her doubles experience. Considering the form and experience of both players, Krejcikova is the overwhelming favourite to win the match.
