Naomi Osaka continued her sensational return to action as she Andrea Petkovic in the quarter finals, whom she defeated 6-1, 7-5 to move into the semj-finals of the tournament. Naomi had earlier defeated Alize Cornet 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the first round in what was her first match since September 2021. The Japanese superstar would look to return to her former glory days as she looks to make a strong start to the season.

Meanwhile, world number 31 too had a great season too, cracking the top 30 in the world for the first time in her career and did well in both the singles and doubles categories. Kudermetova started 2021 at the first edition of the Abu Dhabi Women’s Open. She stunned second seed Elina Svitolina in the quarter finals and Kostyuk in the semifinals.  Seeded 15th at the Volvo Car Open in Charleston, Kudermetova won her first WTA singles title beating Danka Kovinić in the final.
