Maria Sakkari had a pretty disappointing Australian Open 2022 campaign by her standards, crashing out in the fourth round to the surprise package Jessica Pegula. The Greek then went on to give an impressive performance at the WTA St Petersburg Open, reaching the final where she lost to Annet Kontaveit. The 26-year-old is currently ranked as the World No.6. The final in St Petersburg was her first final since September last year, which was coincidentally against Konatveit in the Ostrava Open, where Sakkari lost in straight sets.
Meanwhile, Ann Li is an American tennis player who is ranked 58th in the world. The 21-year-old fell in the first round of the Australian Open to Wang Xinyu, before failing to go past the qualifiers at the WTA Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. However, the youngster did start the campaign in Qatar with a shock win against Sofia Kenin in a hard-fought victory to set up a clash against Sakkari.
