Alize Cornet vs Magda Linette : Preview

Alize Cornet will be looking to revive her form on Clay ahead of the upcoming French Open 2021 as she has struggled this season both on Hardcourts and Clay. The 31-year old who hails from France is yet to qualify for a quarter-final this season and will be looking to break the jinx this week.
She comes back to France from the recently concluded WTA Italian Open 2021 where she was defeated in the 1st round after qualifying into the main draw from the qualifying rounds. She comes into the tie from a straight-set victory in the first round.
Magda Linette is currently playing just her 6th tournament of the season but also the 5th tournament on Clay. This will be the first Round of 16 appearance of the season for the 29-year old Polish national as she has made early exits in all of her season appearances.
Similar to Alize, she comes to France from the Italian Open where she lost in her first match in the opening round continuing her poor run of form. She comes into the second round at Strasbourg from a straight-set victory in the first round dishing out a bagel in the 2nd set.
Alize Cornet vs Magda Linette : Head to Head

This will be the 3rd meeting between the duo who have met on Clay on both their previous meetings. Coincidentally, they faced off each other at the 2013 Strasbourg Open as well that too in the Round of 16. Alize emerged victorious then and also in the 2019 Italian Open clash. Alize Cornet leads the head-to-head tie 2-0.
Alize Cornet vs Magda Linette : Prediction

While both the players have struggled for form and consistency throughout the season, Cornet has still looked slight better when it comes to Clay, being 5-5 for the season on the soil. However, Linette’s victory in the first round was her first Clay win of the season after having lost 4 on the trot.
Prediction: Alize Cornet to win in 3-sets.
