WTA Strasbourg Open 2021: Bianca Andreescu vs Andrea Garcia-Preview, Head-to-Head and Prediction

Bianca Andreescu will take on Andrea Garcia in the first round of the Strasbourg Open 2021. Andreescu is currently the World No.7 on the WTA rankings and Garcia  is the World No.279.

Bianca Andreescu had her breakthrough year in 2019 where she won three titles, including the US Open. The twenty year old Canadian though has been very unlucky with her injuries and has missed out on most of 2020 due to them. The year 2021 started on a sour note for her as she was ousted from the Australian Open in the second round. But then she picked herself up and reached the Semi-finals of the very next tournament, the Phillip Island Trophy. Injuries hit her hard again as she withdrew from most tournaments and returned to the tour at the fag end of the hard court season with the Miami Open.

At Miami she played a fantastic brand of tennis and reached the Finals but again an injury forced her to withdraw from the match, while trailing 3-6 0-4 to Ash Barty. Andreescu took time off and wanted to start clay court season at Madrid, but she contracted COVD and had to remain in isolation. She returned COVID negative but still missed the Italian Open as the Government there asked her to quarantine again. Now she is finally back, as the top seed at Strasbourg.

Her first round opponent is Andrea Garcia. Garcia is a twenty-six year old qualifier who will be making her main draw debut in this event. In the qualifiers, she beat Ulrikke Eikeri in the first round. In the second she got the better of Jessika Ponchet in three sets 7-6 1-6 6-3.

Andreescu has a unique game which is built on her ability to think and strategize. You will rarely see her repeating the same shots, the same patterns. She uses the angles, variations, drop shots and adapts her game according to the situation. Andreescu possesses an all court game, with a good serve and powerful groundstrokes.

Garcia on the other hand is a relatively unknown commodity and has not beaten a top-100 player in her career so far. So it remains to be seen if she can stand up to Andreescu at all.
