Ivan Lendl speaks on the task on hand coaching Andy Murray

Set to become the coach of Andy Murray for the third time in a few weeks now, Ivan Lendl was present in Miami where he witnessed the defeat of the Briton against Daniil Medvedev.
Post the match, the Czech national spoke to The Guardian about the task at hand once he takes over the coaching reigns. Lendl revealed that Murray communicated with him that the Scot didn’t have much time left at the top level and that he wanted to maximize whatever time he had. He also went on to praise Murray, revealing that he was in a good position since he had realized that there is no time to waste.
“Andy called me and said something very clear: ‘Listen, Ivan, I don’t know how much time I have left here, so I want to meet with the people who know what to do and how. I can do it’. What he said made a lot of sense, so we discussed it and decided to give it another chance. Andy has always been in a good position, he quickly understood that in a context like this, where you have some of the best players in the history of tennis in front of you, you cannot waste your time being frustrated because that will eventually destroy you. He’s still very good, but don’t lose focus or start worrying about other people, it won’t help you,” said Lendl.
