Zverev had reached the quarters at the Roland Garros in 2018 and 2019 as well, but was defeated by Dominic Thiem and Novak Djokovic respectively. This time however he stands a better chance to go ahead of the last-8 into the semis against a much lower ranked opponent.

Alejandro Fokina will make his quarter-final debut at the Roland Garros and will also be playing his first Grand Slam quarter-final of his career. He comes into the quarters from a victory over Argentine Federico Delbonis defeating him 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

The Spaniard won a straight-set match in the 1st round and followed it up with 2 impressive 5-set wins in the 2nd and 3rd round which included a his 3rd round victory over the in-form Norwegian Casper Ruud, who many dubbed to be a dark horse this year for the title.

Zverev comes into the tie with a 13-3 record on Clay while Fokina is 16-6 for the season. While Fokina has been fairly busy on the tour this year, specially on soil, Zverev will find his comfort in a better record at the Grand Slam and will be looking at this as a perfect opportunity to move into his first semi-final of the French Open.

Prediction: Alexander Zverev to win in 4-sets in the quarter-finals of the French Open 2021.
