Scenes after the final whistle at Levi’s Stadium turned dicey on Sunday. Robert Saleh and Liam Coen had to be separated following a heated exchange.

Coen and his Jacksonville Jaguars team arrived at the Bay Area, a place they had yet to win a game in previous attempts. The San Francisco 49ers were off to an unbeaten start to the campaign and received positive news about Brock Purdy’s return.

Purdy replaced Mac Jones in the starting lineup for the tie, adding more pressure on the Jags. However, the $55 million AAV man conceded four turnovers (2 interceptions and 2 fumbles) as the Niners suffered their first loss of the season.

While both sides were busy shaking hands, the camera crew ran to the middle of the field to investigate a small commotion. Liam Coen and Robert Saleh shouted at each other at the top of their lungs.

Keep my name out of your mouth” can vaguely be heard amidst the noise coming from the crowd.

The situation nearly escalated before players and staff separated the two coaches.

Earlier in the week, Saleh had accused Coen and the Jaguars of stealing signs from other teams.

Liam [Coen] and his staff, a couple of guys coming from Minnesota, they got, legally, a really advanced signal-stealing-type system where they always find a way to put themselves in an advantageous situation. They do a great job of it. They just try to find any nugget they can. So we’ve got to be great with our signals and be great with our communication to combat some of those tells we might give on the field.

Reporters pressed Coen for a reply, but the first-year head coach of the Jags smartly navigated his way out of any controversy.

I’m not going to speak on that fully right now. We have a huge game for us coming up this weekend. We’ve got a great defense that we’ve got to go and attack, and that’s where our whole mindset and mentality is right now.

The Jaguars were +3.5 underdogs against the 49ers at kickoff. Coen’s predecessors had only ever recorded one win against the NFC West giants in the past.

Despite the overwhelming odds, the Jags came to play, and their defense overwhelmed Purdy in his second start of the season. He threw two picks to Devin Lloyd, who had 8 total tackles.

The Jaguars further forced two fumbles out of the Niners’ offense.

Midway through the third quarter, Dennis Gardeck’s hit forced TE Luke Farrell to lose the ball, which resulted in a 48-yard touchdown by running back Travis Etienne in the following play. Three minutes before the end, ex-Niners DE Arik Armstead hit Purdy for a fumble to secure the possession for the away side.

The game ended in a 26-21 victory for the Coen’s Jaguars. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw 21 completions for 174 yards (67%) and 1 touchdown. Etienne rushed 19 times for 124 yards and 1 TD.

Brock Purdy’s return as the starter went horribly wrong despite completing 309 yards from 22 completions. Purdy further threw 2 touchdown passes to Christian McCaffrey (6 receptions for 92 yards and 17 rushes for 49 yards) and TE Jake Tonges (3 for 58).
