Terence Crawford is widely regarded as one of boxing’s most technically dominant boxers. The Nebraska native retired undefeated after capturing world titles across multiple divisions. However, a long-discussed fight with Conor McGregor never materialized. Crawford has now drawn criticism after claiming he would have accepted the matchup despite previously turning it down.

Crawford recently retired from professional boxing after nearly two decades in the sport. He finished undefeated with a 42-0 record, becoming one of the few modern greats to retire without a loss. Crawford capped off his career by defeating Mexican star Canelo Alvarez in September 2025. He became the first male boxer in the four-belt era to become an undisputed champion in three different weight classes.

Crawford recently reignited his feud with McGregor after criticizing Ilia Topuria following his UFC Freedom 250 title defeat. McGregor responded with a lengthy social media rant, accusing ‘Bud’ of disrespecting Topuria and MMA while claiming the boxer rejected a $200 million superfight. However, Crawford has now denied that any such offer existed, insisting he was always willing to fight McGregor.

It’s cap. He’s making up numbers. I would’ve did it. Now I don’t need to. Conor’s not the best wrestler. I know it only takes one shot and I’d put him to sleep.

Crawford’s latest comments contrast with his earlier stance on a potential fight with McGregor. He previously claimed McGregor and his team approached him, but he declined because he did not want to deal with kicks or takedowns. That differs from his current claim that he was always ready to face the UFC star.

Shortly afterward, McGregor responded on social media, expressing deep respect for Crawford and his accomplishments. The former UFC champion also claimed his team had offered Crawford a $200 million deal consisting of one boxing match and one MMA fight, with each bout valued at $100 million.

Crawford has increasingly become involved in rivalries with UFC fighters in recent months. The Nebraska native originally called out Ilia Topuria after the former champion proposed a boxing match, dismissing the idea. Their exchanges eventually culminated in Crawford’s comments following UFC Freedom 250.

Crawford was also involved in an online rivalry with Joaquin Buckley after the UFC welterweight challenged him to a street fight. Buckley also claimed he could beat both Crawford and Shakur Stevenson after they disrespected MMA. The comments prompted a heated response from Crawford.

Conor McGregor previously boxed Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a crossover event that reportedly generated around $600 million in revenue back in 2017. Although a superfight with ‘The Notorious One’ never materialized, Terence Crawford’s latest comments have revived discussion about the rumored matchup.

Terence Crawford’s stance on Ilia Topuria’s defeat drew widespread criticism across the combat sports community. Many fans accused the undefeated boxing legend of demeaning Topuria and adding to the Spaniard’s disappointment after his UFC Freedom 250 loss.

Conor McGregor initially criticized Crawford on social media before expanding on the issue during The Ariel Helwani Show. He said he did not agree with Crawford criticizing Topuria after his defeat. This ultimately led the Irishman to revive claims about a proposed $200 million crossover fight between them.

Fans accused Terence Crawford of contradicting his past statements after he claimed he had always been willing to fight McGregor. Many argued the Nebraska native was rewriting history, citing his previous interviews and questioning the credibility of his latest comments about the proposed superfight.

Many others resurfaced an older video in which Crawford explained why he did not want to fight the Irish UFC star under MMA rules. They pointed to those remarks as evidence that his current stance differs significantly from what he had publicly stated in the past.

The exchange has also reignited the long-running MMA-versus-boxing debate. Terence Crawford has repeatedly argued that MMA fighters cannot compete with elite boxers in the ring while also criticizing the UFC’s pay structure. The Nebraska superstar’s latest comments have further fueled that rivalry.
