An iconic women’s trilogy bout was done and settled at last. Katie Taylor has officially closed the book on one of boxing’s greatest rivalries, and she did it in style! On Friday night in New York City, the Irish icon edged out Amanda Serrano for a third straight time, sealing their trilogy with another hard-fought win and extending her record to 3-0 against the Puerto Rican.
Inside the electric atmosphere of Madison Square Garden, Taylor retained her undisputed super lightweight crown (140 pounds) with a majority decision victory. Two judges saw it 97-93 in her favor, while the third had it even at 95-95. The bout, like the first two, was razor-close and felt like a high-level chess match with gloves.
Interestingly, the duo landed the same number of punches at 70, which signaled the competitiveness of the bout. As usual, the boxing world’s best fighters have spoken. Taking to his X account, pound-for-pound king Terence Crawford described the star-studded trilogy in a single sentence.
Some people just have your number. Another great fight tho.

Both fighters dialed back the aggression slightly this time, opting for calculated exchanges over haymakers. However, the ending sequence to the third round was iconic. This slight tactical shift favored Taylor, who once again had her hand raised against the seven-division champion. The action also returned to MSG, which served as the spot for their first bout.
Moreover, the two legendary boxers headlined the arena’s first all-women’s card. In turn, the legendary duo created opportunities for the other featured fighters on the card. And what an analogy! Taylor and Serrano first met on April 30, 2022, at the same venue in what was widely billed as the biggest women’s boxing match of all time.
Taylor, then the undisputed lightweight champion, put all her belts on the line against Serrano. The fight more than lived up to the hype. After ten rounds, the Irish star emerged victorious via split decision (94-96, 97-93, 96-93).
A highly anticipated rematch between the two was scheduled for May 2023 in Taylor’s home country of Ireland. However, Serrano withdrew due to an undisclosed injury suffered in February. The rematch finally happened in November 2024 as the co-main event of the blockbuster Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul card at AT&T Stadium in Texas.
Broadcast live on Netflix, the bout shattered records, averaging 74 million viewers globally and peaking with a 47 million AMA. Once again, the fight was incredibly close with Taylor edging out Serrano by the slimmest of margins and winning 95-94 on all three judges’ scorecards.
However, the judges decision did stir some controversies. Serrano openly disputed the outcome in post-fight interviews and accused Taylor of headbutting her in the bout. Meanwhile, some defended the decision stating that Taylor had blocked most of the Puerto Rican’s punches with her hands and countered really well.
That fight set up the trilogy bout, which once again concluded in Taylor’s favor. Just like ‘Bud’ said, some fighters are just another legend’s kryptonite. However, the undefeated American boxer is all set to face his toughest challenge yet when he meets Canelo Alvarez later this year.
Eddie Hearn joins Canelo Alvarez in discrediting Terence Crawford’s record
Only 63 days remain until Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Terence “Bud” Crawford will fight on 13 September at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The bout is perhaps one of the most anticipated fights in boxing history.
Moreover, the hype continues to build with the numerous conferences the duo has had in the past few weeks. Apart from this, UFC head honcho Dana White is in charge of promoting the fight in collaboration with GEA Chairman Turki Alalshikh.

Moreover, it seems that things are already heating up. Alvarez recently questioned Crawford’s record and lack of big names and quipped, “Mention one elite fighter.” Soon after, Matchroom Boxing head honcho Eddie Hearn has also joined the wagon. Hearn recently sat down on the Ring Champs podcast, and the conversation quickly turned towards Crawford vs. Canelo.
As someone who’s promoted eight of Alvarez’s fights, Hearn was the perfect guest to weigh in. When asked by Reyes for his take on the fight, the Matchroom boss didn’t hesitate to highlight what makes Crawford so dangerous, highlighting the American’s self-belief. Still, just like the Mexican juggernaut, Hearn also questioned the strength of Crawford’s resume.
“He’s a great fighter, but I have to say, like, tell me his major significant wins,” Hearn challenged. Co-host Kamal Barak Bess quickly jumped in, citing Crawford’s dominant win over Errol Spence Jr., but Hearn wasn’t fully convinced.
The UK promoter pointed out that Crawford deserved the credit, but Spence Jr. had eye problems that still keeps him away from the ring. Moreover, Hearn wanted to hear about more stellar fighters on the undefeated American boxer’s resume.
Barak continued with names like Kell Brook and Shawn Porter, but Hearn pushed back, pointing out that Brook was nearing the twilight of his career when he faced Crawford.
It’s not Terrence’s fault, right? But when you look at pure resumes, I actually think Canelo’s resume is so underrated.

With the fight locked in for September 13th, the anticipation is sky-high. While Crawford’s confidence is undeniable, many believe Canelo’s size, experience, and battle-tested resume give him the edge in what could be the most challenging test of the Nebraska native’s stellar career.
