It has been months since the news of mutual interest between Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers first emerged. The four-time league MVP had a bitter ending to his stint with the New York Jets, however, Pittsburgh was expected to be the right destination for him. After all, there was Mike Tomlin and a talented offensive core, lacking one piece: a good quarterback.

The Steelers traded Russell Wilson and Justin Fields shortly after. This added fuel to the fire that Aaron Rodgers to Pittsburgh was a done deal, and a few weeks later, the quarterback had a fruitful visit to the team’s facility that lasted over four hours. However, since then, the rumors have died down, and there is no clarity on the situation between the two sides.

The quarterback’s indecisive behavior has frustrated a legend in the Steelers’ franchise history. Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw, who led the team to four Super Bowl championships and won two Super Bowl MVP Awards, had a blunt response when asked about the Steelers organization patiently waiting on Aaron Rodgers to say yes.

That’s a joke. That is just to me is a joke. What are you gonna do? Bring him in for one year? Are you kidding me?…That guy needs to stay in California. Go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the gods out there.

The quarterback-turned-analyst said during his appearance on 103.7 The Buzz. Bradshaw hails from an era where players spoke less and let their actions speak for themselves. So it is understandable that he is not happy with the Steelers going all-in on Rodgers. Interestingly, his advice to Aaron Rodgers was unfiltered and brutal.

Terry Bradshaw vouched for Kenny Pickett as the Steelers’ QB in the long run

He suggested that the quarterback stay in his comfortable estate in California, Rodgers’ native, and stick to trying ayahuasca-induced spiritual experiences. It will be a bit odd if Rodgers did finally choose to sign with the Steelers now, because he cannot wear his iconic number 12 without Bradshaw’s blessing.

Before Aaron Rodgers, it was Terry Bradshaw who made the number 12 iconic. Since his departure, nobody in Pittsburgh has ever worn that number. While the number has officially not been retired, it will be an uncomfortable situation if Rodgers does swoop in and wear the jersey, knowing full well that Bradshaw does not approve of him.

From Bradshaw’s perspective, letting Kenny Pickett go was a big mistake.

I liked Kenny Pickett. I liked him at Pitt. I know him, I know what he’s like. And when they got him to Pittsburgh, here’s what they didn’t do. They didn’t protect him…they didn’t get him an offensive line…

The four-time Super Bowl champion defended Pickett. Drafted by Pittsburgh, Pickett played for two seasons but was let go by the team ahead of the 2024 season. Terry Bradshaw believes that if the quarterback had competent wide receivers and an offensive line that could protect him, he would have grown to be a reliable option at quarterback.

Pittsburgh is counting on a positive response from Rodgers. The price to pay for an elite quarterback is patience, and with him as their floor general, Mike Tomlin is confident that the team will be able to move past the first round of the playoffs. The team traded George Pickens to Dallas and signed DK Metcalf to a significant deal, hoping it would entice Rodgers to sign with them. Metcalf and Rodgers had a throwing session as well, just days after he joined Pittsburgh.
