The Deshaun Watson saga drags on as the Cleveland Browns’ struggles worsen, with their latest defeat against the Washington Commanders marking one of Watson’s worst performances. Now sitting at 1-4, the Browns have lost their last three games to teams expected to struggle. Amid the turmoil, NFL Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw is calling on head coach Kevin Stefanski to make a decisive move.

The former four-time Super Bowl champion was speaking on FOX’s post-game show. With the panel discussing the state of the Browns, Bradshaw seemed angry with the situation in Cleveland.

Do you put Watson down now? He has not played well since he’s been in Cleveland. Simply has not played well.

Terry Bradshaw said

To this, his panel clarified that by putting down, Terry Bradshaw meant to bench him. A move the entire panel agreed with, as they too felt that Watson has not been good for the Cleveland Browns.

Since Deshaun Watson donned a Browns jersey, he has played in 17 games so far. Injuries and the NFL-induced suspensions stopped him from playing more games. But this offseason, he had the chance to develop his game and chemistry with the team. Even then, in his five games so far, the former Houston Texans star sits at the end of the list of quarterbacks in QBR.

He also happens to be bottom four in the league in passer rating. With such atrocious numbers and nothing else to show for, Terry Bradshaw would prefer if the Browns benched Watson and went with their backup QB. He and the panel agreed that the jobs of several others are on the line if this continues.

Deshaun Watson’s perils could end the careers of many

The mere fact that Deshaun Watson quit on a 4th-down play was enough for many to see why he should be benched. The Cleveland Browns have an elite defense and a stout enough offense to be in this position. Last season, they made it to the playoffs on the back of now-journeyman backup Joe Flacco.

Stefanski won Coach of the Year for his efforts in leading his team with Watson out. This season brings to light the mistakes Stefanski and the front office have made by trading for the beleaguered QB. The first mistake was to help the Houston Texans bailout of the off the field mess the 29-year-old created. Then blow their own draft capital and hand him a fully guaranteed contract, were their next two mistakes.

Those mistakes have seemingly undone all the good work both Kevin Stefanski and GM Andrew Berry have done otherwise. If they continue to stick with their starting QB, their own careers and that too the future careers of other Browns players are at risk.
