Five years have passed since the NFL suspended Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim after he pleaded guilty to charges of extreme DUI. Terry McDonough was the Vice President of Player Personnel of the Cardinals. McDonough’s lawyer, Mike Caspino, levied new allegations against the team in an interview with Doug Franz Unplugged. He cited it violated the terms of the five-week suspension against the GM.
Mike Caspino, the lawyer of McDonough, made a serious allegation on the Doug Franz Unplugged podcast. He alleged that while Steve Keim was serving his suspension, the Arizona Cardinals franchise team executive Mike Disner resorted to distributing and using burner phones to communicate with him.
Franchise owner Michael Bidwill found out about this and wasted no time gathering all the devices. However, he did not remove the device from his then Vice President, Terry McDonough. Caspino had stated that the former VP still had the burner phone. Moreover, McDonough offered to hand it over to the general counsel of the NFL, Jeff Pash. However, Pash refused to accept it.
The NFL seems to have turned a cheek to the Arizona Cardinals’ violating the terms of Keim’s suspension
Mike Caspino further stated that the team protected Disner. They ensured Disner did not have to face questioning under oath in the McDonough case. Terry McDonough filed a case last summer accusing Michael Bidwill, the owner of the Cardinals, of cheating.
McDonough made a serious allegation about his demotion. He claimed the demotion happened after not participating in the team’s attempt to violate Keim’s suspension terms by communicating through a burner phone. The team kept in contact with the controversial GM through the burner phones.
The lawyer criticized the outcome and manner in which the arbitration process happened. Mike Caspino said the investigation did not look into Disner’s role seriously. If that had been done, it would have proven the dishonesty of Bidwill.
The NFL is a sham. It exists for one reason and one reason only: To protect 32 billionaires...they don't care if an owner breaks the rules and in fact all they try to do is cover it up.Mike Caspino via Doug Franz Unplugged
Justice has not been denied in this matter as Disner has been mandated to testify in a separate lawsuit filed by McDonough, his wife, and his daughter against the Arizona Cardinals. The ball now lies in Mike Caspino’s court as he will have to convince the Judge that the issue of the burner phone is significantly relevant to the claims being made by the lawsuit and, as a result, must be pursued.
Will justice be served, or will the Cardinals and the Lions (Disner currently works for the Lions) move heaven and earth to protect Disner from testifying under oath? It remains to be seen.
