Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters was seen speaking with estranged wide receiver Terry McLaurin ahead of an intra-field scrimmage game, according to JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington. The conversation comes amid McLaurin’s contract-related absence from team activities, with negotiations between the two sides still unresolved.
McLaurin, who turns 30 in September, is pushing for a long-term, big-money deal comparable to Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf’s contract, which averages $33 million per season. That figure places McLaurin just behind top earners Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, and CeeDee Lamb.

The Commanders are hesitant to match that number or commit to a lengthy agreement, largely due to concerns over the performance decline historically seen in receivers after age 30.
Instead, Washington is reportedly aiming for a shorter extension similar to Mike Evans’ 2023 deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, something along the idea of two years, $52 million. Since entering the league in 2019, McLaurin has topped 1,000 receiving yards in four consecutive seasons, making him one of the Commanders’ most reliable offensive weapons.
As much as Washington wants to keep a crucial piece of their offensive unit on the team, Peters and the management need to think about the bigger picture and the financial future of the club. Peters shared his thoughts and discussed the standoff three weeks ago.
Without a doubt, everybody in this building values Terry very much. We knew that coming in, and we knew that even more after spending a year with him. We’ve had some conversations recently, and we’ll look to have some more conversations. We’re going to do everything we can in order to get a deal done.

The Commanders held the “Burgundy and Gold” scrimmage as they look to better their last season finish
The Washington Commanders are heading into the new season hoping to follow the same success pattern as last year. They had a whole reset with a new franchise quarterback, Jayden Daniels, and new coaching personnel like Kliff Kingsbury, and ended a long drought of not playing a conference game.

They want to move ahead of their last season’s record. The Commanders have been putting in the work, and they continue to train harder as the regular season inches closer. They held an intra-squad scrimmage at OrthoVirginia Training Center that head coach Dan Quinn dubbed the “Burgundy and Gold game.”
In a matchup designed to break up the monotony of camp, the roster was split into two squads, one in burgundy, one in gold, for a competitive, high-energy session. The gold team emerged with a 14-0 victory, earning not only celebratory T-shirts emblazoned with “ALL ASHBURN” across the front but also valuable bragging rights.
The scrimmage highlighted the defensive dominance of the gold squad. Notable contributors included Javon Kinlaw, Von Miller, Trey Amos, Bobby Wagner, Frankie Luvu, and Daron Payne, who combined to stifle the burgundy offense. The first-team defense completely shut out the first-team offense.

The burgundy team, led by quarterback Jayden Daniels, featured offensive playmakers like Deebo Samuel, Luke McCaffrey, Brian Robinson, and Zach Ertz. Despite their talent, they couldn’t find the end zone.
