Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon fired back at ESPN analyst Rex Ryan following the Texans’ dominant 32-12 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Taking to Instagram Live from the locker room, Mixon delivered a sharp response aimed at the former NFL head coach and current analyst.
The former New York Jets coach had quipped that the Houston Texans are the worst division titleholders after their humbling loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Earlier this week on ESPN, Rex Ryan claimed that the Chargers “basically had a bye” since they were facing Houston.
He doubled down on his remarks on Saturday, warning the Texans that they were “in trouble.” However, the Texans quickly shut up the Chargers offense to advance to the Divisional Playoffs. As running back Joe Mixon celebrated the victory on his Instagram live, he and his teammates directly called out Ryan by name. “We smoking on that Rex Ryan pack!” various Texans screamed as Mixon lit a cigar.

“That boy said a bye week! That boy said a bye week!” an unidentified Houston player chimed in from the background. “Come on, Rex!” Mixon shouted, nodding his head to Kendrick Lamar’s “Squabble Up.” The Texans will discover their next opponent on Sunday following the conclusion of the AFC’s two remaining wild-card matchups.
Joe Mixon was the standout in the Texans victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. The 28-year-old delivered an impressive performance, racking up 106 yards on 25 carries and adding a 13-yard reception. Mixon also sealed Houston’s victory with a 17-yard rushing touchdown, extending the lead to 20 points with just under four minutes remaining in regulation.
Rex Ryan eats his own words after the Houston Texans spectacle
During Sunday NFL Countdown, ESPN analyst Rex Ryan offered an apology to the Houston Texans—but perhaps it’s the Los Angeles Chargers who deserved an apology for providing their opponent with extra motivation.
On Sunday, the former New York Jets coach playfully grabbed a cigar and pretended to smoke it, joking that he might have had a worse day than Justin Herbert. He also quipped that if he had known the Texans would perform the way they did on Saturday, he might have picked them to win the Super Bowl.

C.J. Stroud had some rough moments, but his overall performance was solid. He completed 22 of 33 pass attempts, throwing for 282 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, while also adding 42 rushing yards. In addition to Joe Mixon, Nico Collins also had an impressive game. Across the board, Houston players delivered standout performances.
On defense, the Texans proved why they are considered an elite unit. DeMeco Ryans crafted a flawless game plan, and his players executed it with near perfection. Throughout the game, Houston’s defense sacked Justin Herbert four times and kept the pressure on him continuously.
They also intercepted him four times, adding to their dominance. When the Texans perform at this level, they are an incredibly tough team to beat.
