Shocking news arrived from Sanford, Florida. Shortly after midnight on Sunday morning, Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell was shot during a private event.
Tank Dell was caught in an altercation between the two groups firing at each other. The 24-year-old was only a bystander in the incident, and according to local media, he had no part in the skirmish.
ESPN.com reported that after receiving treatment for minor injuries, the hospital let him go. A spokesperson from the Texans later provided further details.
[Tank] Dell has been released from the hospital, and he is in good spirits. We are in contact with him and his family and will provide more updates.Statement from the Houston Texans read
There were other victims besides Tank Dell
Unfortunately, Dell was one of the 10 people who ended up in the middle of the crossfire. None of the victims in the shooting at Cabana Live in Sanford suffered life-threatening injuries. Similar to Dell, they were also released after primary first aid.
A witness told the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office that the shooting took place after a firefight. An individual who wasn’t involved in the melee brought out a handgun and started firing at the crowd. One of the security guards in the area rushed in and subdued the perpetrator.
A 16-year-old was arrested and later taken to the juvenile detention center for further questioning. The police revealed that they would place several charges against him, including homicide and firing a gun in a crowded place.
Neither Dell nor anyone from his family has released any statements as of yet. According to the last known reports, he went back to his home near Daytona Beach, Florida.
As for his NFL career, Tank Dell is coming off an impressive rookie campaign like his quarterback CJ Stroud. The University of Houston graduate was one of the contenders to bag the offensive Rookie of the Year until he suffered a fractured fibula against the Denver Broncos on Week 11.
Last month, head coach DeMeco Ryans provided an update on Dell’s rehab.
I'm excited to have Tank back. That was a devastating loss for us last year, losing him. He's such a dynamic player for us.DeMeco Ryans said
The former Texas A&M player appeared in 11 games, starting eight for the Texans last season. He ended with 47 catches for 709 yards (15.1 yards per catch) and 7 touchdowns.
