There’s nothing more iconic and yet disrespectful in college football than the home team getting blown out by the visiting team and seeing their flag planted in the middle of their stadium to rub salt in the wound. The Michigan Wolverines fans went through similar emotions after Texas Longhorns’ David Gbenda took advantage of an opening.
Ann Arbor welcomed #3-ranked Texas to the Big House, which promised to be a post-season game rather than a week-2 match-up. However, the Wolverines were dominated by the Longhorns, as the game finished 31-12.
As the crowd began to clear out from the stands, Texas senior linebacker David Gbenda seized the opportunity and planted a giant Longhorns flag in the middle of the field. Well, at least he gave it a go, but he couldn’t impale the refurbished turf and it fell.

Regardless, the act may be a sign of triumph for UT, but for Michigan, there’s nothing more shameful, perhaps even the inflated scoreline.
Steve Sarkisian is proud of Texas’ win over Michigan
Earlier this year, the Wolverines lifted the CFP title for the first time since 1998. On top of that, they were on a 23-game winning streak at home dating back to 2020 (Penn State), so the Longhorns winning in Michigan was a massive achievement for Steve Sarkisian and his players.
The Texas head coach was proud of David Gbenda, who had 7 tackles in the game, and the rest of his Longhorns.
I’ve got to give credit to Longhorn Nation. Y’all showed out, man. That was awesome. What an environment! What a moment for our players for our players and our staff to sing ‘The Eyes of Texas’ there at the end with the amount of orange in the stands.Steve Sarkisian said after the game (H/T: The Sporting News)

The atmosphere at Ann Arbor really clicked with Sarkisian and his players. It reminded him of their trip to Alabama last season when Nick Saban was still at the helm.
Michigan, snapping a 23-game home win streak and looking up and seeing the amount of burned orange in the stands was special. It was super special.Steve Sarkisian added

The game has to be a wake-up call for Michigan and their new head coach, Sherrone Moore, who replaced Jim Harbaugh earlier this year.
Up next, they will welcome the Arkansas State Red Wolves, who are 2-0 after beating Central Arkansas and Tulsa. As for the Longhorns, they will play the UTSA Roadrunners, who are 1-1 after the first 2 games.
