Nico Harrison and now Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic

Luka Doncic had his best game for the Los Angeles Lakers in their previous battle against the Denver Nuggets. His playmaking, scoring and surprisingly improved defense showed that he is lifting up his new team. That set up the excitement ahead of the game against the Dallas Mavericks.

The Jordan Brand set the tone with their efforts to hype up the game. On top of that, fans started packing Crypto.com arena well before the game was even scheduled to start. Those who came in saw that Mavericks GM Nico Harrison had arrived with his team.

Thank you, Nico.

Lakers fans chanted

This chant seemingly added to the notion that Nico Harrison literally gifted the Los Angeles Lakers their next superstar. That superstar has started to look more comfortable alongside the likes of LeBron James and his new teammates as he notched a career first wearing the purple and blue.

Luka Doncic notches first triple double as a Laker

In the previous game against the Denver Nuggets, Luka Doncic affected all facets of the game. Statistically though, it was this game against his former team, the Dallas Mavericks, that helped him notch his first triple double with his new team.

Doncic did not have a great shooting night as he struggled from the three-point line. But he made up for it with a few crucial close-range shots and sank 75% of his free throws. He ended the game with a stat line of 19 points, 15 rebounds and 12 assists.

Along with those eye-popping numbers, he notched three steals and two blocks to prove that his defensive intensity has not slowed down. If this is what he has achieved in just his fifth game with the team, it gives hope that the Slovenian star is going to have a great career with his new team.

He has dropped considerable weight and is looking more mobile than ever. However, the Los Angeles Lakers are still not pushing him to play a lot of minutes as he is still not 100%. Their home stretch will see them play four games against solid playoff teams. Those games will show how this new lineup is developing.
