‘That is exactly what we don’t need in our domestic game’ – Glenn Maxwell slams Stuart Clark for criticizing Ollie Davies over a poor shot

Former Australian quick Stuart Clark has hit the headlines for his criticism of New South Wales rookie Ollie Davies. Clark went a bit over the board as he slammed Davies for his dismissal in the Marsh One-Day Cup clash with Tasmania. The young Aussie batter fell for a 25 ball 28 with the side 40 odd runs away from victory.
Clark felt that Davies’ shot was testament of his attitude while batting. Terming the dismissal ‘embarrassing’, Clark felt that the young gun will never be able to impress the selectors if he continues to bat with such a timid approach. The fact that he succumbed with his side so close to a win didn’t sit well with the former quick. Davies’ wicket made the encounter a thrilling one.
“That’s a disappointing shot by Ollie Davies,” Clark said. “I know Ollie Davies has got a lot of potential. But if I’m a selector and I’m watching that, I just think he doesn’t care. I mean what’s that? That’s embarrassing. I’d be embarrassed if I was Ollie Davies. What’s he doing? That looks like I’m genuinely scared.”
“I just don’t get if you’ve played three games and need 40 to win, you play a shot like that with 10 overs to go,” Clark added.
Glenn Maxwell to the rescue

Following the incident, Aussie all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has come out in Davies’ support. Maxwell slammed Clark for blowing the matter out of proportion. He asserts that these comments dent the confidence of a youngster and hence are something he wouldn’t like to see in domestic cricket.
“Re: The commentary on Ollie Davies today. The only thing that was embarrassing was the commentary. 20yo kid in his 3rd game copping that garbage from past players is exactly what we don’t need in our domestic game. The kid is an excitement machine! How about we just embrace him?” he tweeted.
Maxwell might be the best person to understand the troubles of such criticism having been at the receiving end of it on many occasions. The Aussie all-rounder will be seen flaunting Royal Challengers Bangalore’s jersey in the IPL this season. Having gone for big bucks it will be interesting to see if he will be able to justify his price tag.
