‘That KO against Conor back in 2014 is not going to have been erased from his mind’ – Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh feels Conor has the psychological edge over Dustin Poirier
Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh feels that the Irishman will have a psychological edge over Dustin Poirier, given the way their first meeting, back in 2014, panned out. Conor knocked out Dustin in the very first round when the pair met at UFC 178 in September, 2014. Now, after 6 long years, they are all set to face-off on the 23rd of January, 2021, at UFC 257, in a match that will put the victor in pole position for the lightweight title.
Speaking of this, John Kavanagh felt that the ghosts of 2014 wouldn’t have been erased from Dustin Poirier’s mind, adding that Dustin will be fighting a more experienced and powerful man, than the one he fought in 2014.
‘It is a tough uphill battle for Dustin’ – John Kavanagh
Speaking to THE MAC LIFE, John Kavanagh was quoted as saying, “I think he [Dustin Poirier] could spend a lifetime going to sports psychologists and talking to this person, that person. That is [KO against Conor back in 2014] not going to have been erased from his mind. He knows that he is facing somebody who can shut off his lights very, very rapidly. And now, he’s [Conor] a lot more powerful and a lot more experienced, than he was even then. So, it is a tough uphill battle for Dustin.“
Conor McGregor, last fought Donald Cerrone at UFC 246, in January, this year. He hardly needed 40 seconds to see off Donald Cerrone, coming back to the octagon out of retirement and not having fought in more than 15 months. Such is the natural talent Conor possesses. Dustin should be wary of that. He is coming off a war against Dan Hooker, with the bloody-fight going the full five rounds, and a tough-as-nails, Dustin claiming the victory.
Do you agree with Coach Kavanagh’s claims?
