Khabib Nurmagomedov recently called out French president Emmanuel Macron in a rather controversial fashion. The “Eagle” took to Instagram to respond to Macron’s comments on Islam in response to the terrorist attacks that shook the nation. It resulted in the death of three people, where one was virtually beheaded. The post saw Macron insulted and addressed in a threatening tone for “offending the feelings of more than one billion Muslim believers”.
It was no surprise that the post received flak from many people, considering its tone and language. Many high profile names reacted in a similar manner, with the exception of Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger. The German footballer apparently liked the post, only to unlike it afterwards.
Rudiger apologizes for liking controversial post Nurmagomedov

Rudiger said that he had reacted to the post by mistake, and that he does not condone or support the message of the post. He admitted his mistake and apologized, saying that he liked the post without realizing what it said, as it was written in a language he did not understand. Nurmagomedov’s post was captioned in Russian, his mother tongue; in addition to quotes from the Quran in Arabic.

Rudiger, a muslim himself, strongly disagreed with Khabib. He stated that had withdrawn his like ever since the nature of the content was made clear to him; and that he would like to distance himself from the post and the message it sends, because he does not support violence of any kind.
“That was a mistake. Of course, you shouldn’t like posts that are written in languages that you don’t understand. I reject any kind of violence and therefore want to distance myself clearly from this content. I apologize for this like, which I have since withdrawn. Of course, I do not support such content as in this Instagram post at all,” Rudiger said.
Whether or not Khabib’s actions are justified is a separate argument. However the fact remains the the Russian’s post clearly sent a wrong message and could be used as propaganda.
