Just when things were looking promising for the Vancouver Canucks, they have suffered a massive setback. The team’s top goaltender Thatcher Demko has suffered an injury and missed the second game of the first round matchup against the Nashville Predators.

The Pacific Divisions champions though have not disclosed what type of injury he has suffered. According to coach Rick Tocchet, this injury is not related to the knee one which he suffered early on. That injury saw him being sidelined for 14 games between March and April 2024.

As per Tocchet, he will be assessed on “day-to-day” basis and claimed he (Demko) might have been injured during Game 1 on Monday.

We're going to evaluate him today on something. It wasn't the old injury and that's all I've really got for you guys. It's a day-to-day thing... It might have been (injured) in the game, but I'm not quite sure because he skated (Monday). I don't know the exact timeline.

Demko was one of the standout performer in the 4-2 victory in Game 1. The 28-year-old goaltender made 22 saves and was on the ice for the entire game. What led to his injury is thus the big question.

The injury to him saw Casey DeSmith start just his second Stanley Cup playoffs game. Despite making 12 saves off the 15 shots he faced, he was unable to keep the Predators at hold as they ran away as 4-1 winners at the Rogers Arena.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, there are some questions regarding the availability of Demko for the rest of the series. This could be a massive blow for the Vancouver Canucks and their ambitions.
