“The Purchased Tickets Are Not Cancelled,” Russian Grand Prix Promoter insists event is ‘Suspended’
The unprecedented conflict between Ukraine and Russia has been brought into the world of Formula One as well. There is a global outcry to cancel all the international sporting events in Russia in order to condemn the aggressive warmongering actions taken by the Russian Federation.
Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen were among the first Formula One racers to imply the fact that having a race in a country waging an illegal war is not right. Sebastian Vettel even went on to say that he would boycott the race if it went on to happen. Max Verstappen would follow suit to hint the same thing.
Among all these outcries, Formula 1 finally released an ambiguous statement saying that the Sochi Grand Prix may be cancelled due to the ongoing war.
A lot of fans were confused since they had bought tickets to the race and if they would be getting their refunds or not. The promoter of the Russian Grand Prix, ANO Rosgonki said that the event is just suspended and not cancelled.
“The purchased tickets are not cancelled” – Formula One Russian GP promoter informs fans
The fans were left a bit confused after Formula One released an official statement saying the Russian GP was not going to happen. However, soon after this statement, the promoter released a comprehensive statement which said,
“The purchased tickets are not cancelled – there is no need to get refunds for them now because it is still possible that the round will take place and will be held as previously scheduled.“
“The agreement between the official Russian Grand Prix promoter ANO “ROSGONKI” and FORMULA 1 is suspended due to force majeure events.”
“ANO “ROSGONKI” continues its business as usual providing services to the Sochi Autodrom guests, as well as organising and holding motorsport and other events of the federal, regional and municipal level as part of the event calendar approved.”
These particular statements clearly imply the fact that if things between Russia and Ukraine normalise, there is a good chance that the Russian GP in Sochi may take place. However, it goes without saying how comfortable would the racers be to race in Russia.
