Former India captain Virat Kohli became the first batter in Asia Cup 2022 to score a century, on Wednesday, August 31 at the Dubai International Stadium in UAE. This was also his 31st half-century in T20Is.
Hong Kong asked India to bat first and India put up a huge 192/2 in their allotted 20 overs. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma scored 36 and 21 runs respectively. India were rather tethering before 15 overs.
But when Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli were on the crease, the two turned the table completely. Sixes and fours were smashed frequently and Kohli, after a long wait, scored his half-century.
He played 44 balls and scored 59 runs with a four and three sixes at a strike rate of 134.09. Kohli is also the leading run-scorer in Asia Cup 2022. He now has also highest ever batting Average in T20is (50.7).
While Suryakumar also completed his half-century. He smashed six sixes and six fours to score a quick unbeaten knock of 68 runs off just 26 balls at a strike rate of 261.54.
Kohli and Suryakumar had stitched a 98-run partnership in just 42 balls. At the end, India scored a huge 192/2 in their allotted 20 overs.
